The Future Sounds Better All The Time

In its first public appearance, the Porsche 918 Spyder prototype delivers an aural experience that its cousin, the GT3 R Hybrid, just can’t match. In fact, at this point it’s probably safe to say that the 918 is already the best-sounding hybrid yet created.

Sounds better than what? The "car" from The Jetsons? Not impressed yet.

Other than throwing something up for page hits, I just don't get the point of the post. I'm no fan of GM, but why is it the Volt gets hammered for golf cart speed drive bys and the like, yet a Porsche rolls by sounding like a lawnmower and it's a good thing?

I thought you were kidding, but it actually does sound like a lawnmower. I love the way it looks, but I would have to see more to be impressed by the speed. Not expecting much in the way of sound since it dosent have a conventional motor. I don't care about sound as much, because that is more a remnant of nostalgia and comfort than it has anything to do with car performance. As technology improves and hybrid cars get better, I feel there will be a generation of car buyers that remain left behind because they miss their "loud noises". In time, engine sound will be about as relevant to the general populace as whether or not your car has a cigarette lighter.

That's a bit much for 5 mph isn't it? I like my sports cars to roar at WOT, not at idle.

I have been driving my Prius for 6.5 years now. I like it quiet. Makes it easier for me to pass unsuspecting SUV drivers.
